Experience:
Dr Gowda was a consultant in Infectious Diseases at University Hospital, Coventry and Warwickshire and is now Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine at RG Health in Coventry. He has extensive experience in Infectious Diseases with a particular interest in tropical medicine and travel health. He is therefore able to provide a rapid assessment of problems in the returning traveller. Other areas of expertise include hepatitis, HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. He is able to provide a fast track testing of many of these conditions through the Nuffield Pathology laboratory.
Following qualification from Newcastle University, he gained a wide range of experience in general medicine and then undertook higher training in Infectious Diseases in a highly regarded tertiary referral centre in Sheffield. As part of this, he was awarded the Royal College of Physicians Glasgow Travelling Fellowship and gained experience in tropical medicine and tuberculosis in India. Following this he studied at the School of Tropical Medicine in Liverpool and obtained the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
He previously developed the infection service for Coventry and Warwickshire in conjunction with his infection colleagues. Together they developed dedicated infectious diseases, tuberculosis, and HIV clinics. Patients now receive a high quality, timely service for conditions such as malaria, typhoid and dengue.
He has presented at several international meetings and frequently lectured throughout the UK. Dr Gowda has also contributed to international infectious diseases textbooks and recently completed a British Medical Journal on-line training module in travel health. Dr Gowda has also previously been a medical student finals examiner for Warwick Medical School.
